2016 was a rainy year, and the wines have high acidity, as I could see in the young 2016 Arbois Vin Jaune, with is lively and fresh. It's elegant and balanced, with depth of flavors, layers and layers that unfurl slowly in the glass. It has a bright golden color and an equally bright nose of dried flowers with a peaty side and aromas of nuts and spices, and it's long, tasty and beautifully textured with a chalky feeling. It comes from a lighter year with brightness and freshness. They always say that the wine needs to be in bottle as long as it has been under flor, but I find this quite approachable, though without a doubt, it will gain in complexity and depth with time in bottle and will be able to make old bones.

The 2017 Arbois Vin Jaune was also bottled, so we tasted it next to the 2016. 2017 is a year with more finesse, nuance, subtlety and elegance. The wine has a note of lanolin and rubber (not a negative), with great balance between elegance and power. It's rounder and has subtler acidity than the 2016. It was bottled one month ago and needs to rest a little in bottle. Today, I give the edge to the 2016, which feels livelier.

The 2020 Savagnin Reserve du Caveau had just been bottled when I tasted it in April, and it was expressive and open, with a very classy nose of more mushrooms, walnuts and a touch of curry. It's a little warm and ripe, consistent with the character of the year, with a chalky mouthfeel, salty and tasty. It's clean, long and nicely defined.

Fermentation stopped naturally, leaving residual sugars higher than allowed by the appellation (around 5?g/L), hence its classification as Vin de France. Original and rare!

The 2018 Venus is a Savagnin from 2018 fermented for eight years, but a little more sugar remained than the appellation allows (it has five grams), so it's sold as Vin de France. It has complexity and a faint spicy twist, with notes of dried yellow flowers, serious and not exotic. The palate feels dry, there is no sweetness and it does not reach the complexity, depth and nuance of l'Etrange. It was bottled a couple of weeks before I tasted it, but it feels very balanced and has the stuffing to age nicely in bottle. 2,200 bottles produced.

Vinified in 50% new oak sourced from Atelier Centre France, Cavin and Taransaud, it was disgorged in August 2024 with a dosage of three grams per liter. Full-bodied, concentrated and enveloping, it reveals a fleshy yet saline profile, brimming with natural sweetness despite its Extra Brut designation. Ripe yet racy acidity lends energy and structure. With its generous personality and charm, this cuvée holds considerable aging potential and is poised to win many admirers.

Disgorged in March 2024 with three grams per liter dosage, the 2019 Soliste Chardonnay Pierry 1er Cru Les Tartières et Les Porgeons is drawn from two adjacent southeast-facing plots planted in 1985 and 1990, which are pressed and vinified together. Aged in approximately 30% new oak, it unfurls from the glass with aromas of candied lemon peel and early-blooming white flowers, mingling with notes of sandalwood and pastry. Full-bodied and generously structured, it is ample and enveloping, with a concentrated core of fruit supported by ripe yet vibrant acidity. The 2019 Soliste Meunier Rosé Pierry 1er Cru Les Charmiers is sourced from a high-altitude, wind-exposed parcel near Épernay, which consistently avoids any botrytis pressure. After a maceration of typically between 18 to 24 hours, the wine was disgorged in January 2024 with a dosage of two grams per liter. It jumps from the glass with aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, nutmeg and pink grapefruit zest mingling with notes of brioche. Medium- to full-bodied, it is vinous and textural, with a concentrated fruit core and balance. Given its production method and vintage character, it shows considerable elegance and would pair beautifully with dishes such as smoked salmon.
